About the tour
Learn about Ancient and modern Roman history from the Gay perspective, as only a gay-friendly guide can tell it. Enjoy a guided walk through the ancient heart of the Eternal City as you cover topics on everything from Julius Caesar to Michelangelo and where the best spot is to grab a drink with the gay community in Rome. At the end of your tour enjoy a refreshment (included) on Rome's "Gay Street" together with your group and guide.
Check in at a central location to meet your English-speaking guide. Here, in the heart of the city, walk to the spot where Julius Caesar was betrayed and killed. Climb 124 marble steps to reach the Basilica of Santa Maria in Ara Coeli where, in addition to the celebrated colorful frescoes of Pinturicchio discover a lesser known sight: the simple tomb of Michelangelo's young lover.
Next, walk along the imperial Forum - the political and social heart of the Roman Empire while you learn about Julius Caesar and how homosexuality was viewed socially in Ancient Rome. From here, cross over to Opium Hill where you will visit the Basilica of St. Peter in Chains. Inside this richly adorned Basilica, encounter one of Michelangelo's later and most celebrated sculptures: the horned Moses. In the Roman Forum , you will the Temple of the roman Emperor Heliogabal. In the end the group will stop for a drink in the Colosseum area at a famous gay pub on Rome's "Gay Street" while enjoying the view of the Ludus Magnus -- the ruins of the Gladiator school while listening to tales of Rome's gladiators.
