An unexpected gem

Marcello was an outstanding guide and while this is considerably more to pay than standard tickets it is worth it You look around when you are in there at the lost souls who miss the Raphaels because they are thinking the Sistine Chapel is everything and the tour guides with pieces of string attached to a stick and realise you got the best guy Marcello shows a passion for the art and points you in a direction of self interpretation and also the historical knowledge he has for the Vatican is impressive He brings a very helpful folder with information imagery and props to show exactly what he is trying to explain so nothing is lost in translation It really helps that he is a genuinely lovely guy As for the trip itself I will say the skip the line in off peak is worth it so imagine in summer it is definitely needed It took us a few minutes from meeting up to be ready to start our tour inside the Vatican The headset you receive is important so if you get it and it isnt great tell them right away Marcello carried spares on our tour but in peak time this might not always be possible You need the headset so the tour guides dont have to shout and kill the atmosphere I woke up the day of the tour after having walked around 25 miles in Rome already so my feet were sore I have arthritis I hadnt slept well and I was dragging my feet like a child to do this tour but when we got there it was honestly one of the best things we did in Rome
